About Dialog
The About dialog is where you confirm which version of Compass you are running and how your license or trial stands. Quote the version number whenever you report a problem.
Overview
It is a small fixed-size dialog showing the application icon and name, the Version number, the licensing Status, and the copyright line, with a Close button.
The Status field reads one of two things:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Activated | A valid license is installed on this computer. |
| Trial, with a day count | Compass is running on its trial license, and the count is how many days of the trial remain. |
A spinner stands in the Status field for the moment the license check takes to finish.

Where the entry point is
The way in is platform-scoped:
- Windows: Help → About Dialog in the in-window menu bar. This is the only route on Windows.
- macOS: the same Help-menu item, where it reads About, and a second entry, About Compass, in the
Compassapplication menu.
Whichever entry point your platform offers, it opens this one dialog.
Procedures
Open the About Dialog from the Help Menu
To check your version and license status:
- Click Help on the menu bar.
- Click About Dialog.
The dialog opens over the shell, showing the version, the licensing status, and the copyright line.
On macOS the same item reads About and sits in the Help menu of the system menu bar at the top of the screen.
Open the About Dialog from the macOS Application Menu
On macOS the dialog is also where macOS users expect it, in the application menu:
- Click Compass in the macOS menu bar.
- Click About Compass.
The same About dialog opens.
This entry point does not exist on Windows.

Close the About Dialog
To dismiss the dialog and return to the shell:
- Click the Close button.
