Welcome to Compass

Compass draws traditional astrological wheel charts of six kinds. A Mundane chart shows the sky at a place and moment you choose, a Natal chart shows the sky at a person's birth, and a Transit chart compares the sky at a chosen moment with a person's birth chart. The three technique charts (Primary Directions, Solar Arc Directions and Secondary Progressions) time events in a life and list, beside the wheel, the dates of the directions you ask for.

Every chart opens in a window of its own, where you choose what the chart is cast from and what it shows, move it through time, and save it to a chart file to reopen later.

What You Can Do with Compass​

  • Open every chart, editor and setting from the small Main Window, which can stay above your other windows while you work.
  • Open a New Chart of any of the six types, already set up with your preferred defaults.
  • Cast a Mundane Chart to see the sky for an event, a question or the present moment at a location you choose.
  • Draw a person's birth chart from their natal record as a Natal Chart, and try small changes to the birth time to see their effect.
  • Compare the planets at a chosen moment with a person's birth chart in a Transit Chart.
  • Step a chart forward or back through time, or jump straight to a date and time, with Chart Time Navigation.
  • Drag a Body to Its Transit to find when a planet next or last reaches a sign or house cusp, an angle, another planet or an aspect to a natal point.
  • Drag a Body to an Aspect to move the whole chart with a planet and find when two planets form an aspect.
  • Keep a chart, with its settings and listed directions, in a chart file with Save Chart, and continue from where you left off with Open Chart File.
  • Time events in a life with a Primary Directions Chart, and rectify a birth time by watching the directions re-date as you nudge it.
  • See where the solar arc has carried the birth chart at a given age, and when directed points reach natal places, in a Solar Arc Directions Chart.
  • Follow a person's progressed chart through life in a Secondary Progressions Chart, and find when progressed points perfect aspects to the natal chart.
  • Gather the directions that interest you in a dated Directions List beside the wheel, adding them one at a time by dragging, or every direction within a span of years at once with Calculate.
  • Set the location, natal data, frame, bodies and aspect angles each chart is cast with in its Chart Configuration, and keep the selections you reuse as presets.
  • In a technique chart's Directions and Progressions Chart Configuration, choose the methods, rates and year reckoning that date its directions, and the Max Years span that Calculate covers from the birth.
  • Use the Chart Settings window to set the defaults every new chart opens with and the colors its signs and bodies are drawn in.
  • Use the Aspect Settings window of each chart type to edit the aspect settings that give its aspects their orbs and colors.
  • Keep the locations and natal records your charts are cast from, and import or export them as CSV files, in the Reference Data editors.
  • Open a chart in Compass by double-clicking an event in Aquila, or an ephemeris record or a point on a graphic ephemeris line in Cygnus, with Aquila and Cygnus Integration.
  • Check your version and license status and open this documentation from Help.
  • Reach the download page from the download button on the main toolbar when a newer version of Compass is available, with Update Notification.
