Mundane Chart

A Mundane chart shows the sky at a specific place and moment as a traditional wheel: the chart of an event, a question or the present moment, with no person attached. Click Charts → Mundane Chart to open one (see New Chart), select the location and frame in the settings panel, and type a date and time in the pickers above the wheel or step through time with the chevrons.

What Defines a Mundane Chart​

A Mundane chart is defined by a location and a date and time. You set them, and the rest of the chart, here:

  • You choose the location in the settings panel, from the places in the Locations database.
  • The time band above the wheel holds the date and time pickers and steps the moment.
  • You also choose the calculation frame, the bodies and the aspect angles in the settings panel.

Aspects are matched among the chart's own bodies, and parallels between them can be drawn too. A new Mundane chart opens at the default location at the present moment.

How It Differs from the Natal and Transit Charts​

  • Unlike the Natal Chart, a Mundane chart needs no natal record.
  • Unlike the Transit Chart, it has no second, natal set of points.

Window Layout​

The Mundane chart window holds these areas:

  • Chart Window Toolbar: four icon buttons at the top left of the window, above the settings panel, for saving the chart and opening the Chart Settings and Aspect Settings editors.
  • Mundane Chart Configuration: the settings panel, a single column holding the Location row, the frame rows, the Paral. Aspects drop-down, the Bodies list and the Aspects grid. The frame rows are described in Chart Frame, the list in Chart Bodies Selection and the grid in Chart Aspect Angles.
  • Chart Time Navigation: the time band above the wheel, with the date and time pickers for the chart's moment, a step-unit drop-down and back and forward chevrons.
  • Chart Message Banner: a banner above the wheel that appears only when there is an error or a notice to report about the chart's calculation.
  • Chart Wheel: the wheel in the middle of the window, with a splitter between it and the settings panel that moves width between them. Right-clicking a body glyph or an aspect chord opens the Wheel Context Menu.
  • Chart Display Options: the display strip beneath the wheel, with Coord. Format, Display Lat./Decl. and Display Chart Info.

On the wheel, Shift-drag a body to jump the chart to the moment it reaches a degree, or Control-drag (Ctrl-drag on Windows) a body to move the whole chart with it and land on an aspect; see Drag a Body to Its Transit and Drag a Body to an Aspect.
