Mundane Chart

A Mundane chart shows the sky as seen from a chosen location at a chosen moment. It has no birth, or natal, reference: it is a chart of the positions of the celestial bodies and the aspects between them for a place and time. This makes it the plainest of the three chart types and the starting point for the Transit chart.

What defines a Mundane chart​

Three things define a Mundane chart:

  • Location: the place on Earth the sky is viewed from.
  • Moment: the date and time the chart is calculated for.
  • Ephemeris frame: the reference frame the positions are measured in, for example tropical geocentric ecliptic.

Because a Mundane chart is not tied to a person, you can point it at any place and any moment, then step it through time to watch the positions and aspects change.

How it differs from the other charts​

  • Unlike a Natal Chart, a Mundane chart is not drawn from a saved natal record and is not tied to a person's birth.
  • Unlike a Transit Chart, a Mundane chart has no natal reference set, so it shows only the bodies for the chosen moment, not aspects made to a natal chart.
