Mundane Chart Configuration

The settings panel runs down the left side of a Mundane chart window and holds everything that defines the chart: a flat column of frame and display controls (Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin, Ref. Plane, Orientation, House System, and Paral. Aspects) above the shared bodies list and aspects grid. Change any control and the wheel recalculates live.

The transiting date and time for a Mundane chart are not on this panel. They live in the window's time-navigation band. See Chart Time Navigation.

Configure the Mundane chart frame​

To set up a Mundane chart's frame and display:

  1. Select the observer location from the Location dropdown. This sets the geographic point the chart is cast for.
  2. Define the ephemeris frame with the Zodiac, Coord. Origin, and Ref. Plane dropdowns. Together these establish the coordinate system the body positions are computed in.
  3. Set the wheel orientation and houses with the Orientation and House System dropdowns.
  4. Select the parallel-aspect display from the Paral. Aspects dropdown.

The wheel recalculates as you change each control, so you can adjust the frame and see the result immediately.

The Orientation dropdown is disabled under a heliocentric coordinate origin, and the House System dropdown is enabled only while the orientation is Horizon.

Frame and display settings​

The controls in the panel's top column, listed from top to bottom, are:

Location: your saved observer location for the chart. Manage the list in the Locations Editor.

Zodiac: the zodiac system positions are expressed in. Choose from:

  • Tropical
  • Sidereal

Coord. Origin: the origin of the coordinate system. Choose from:

  • Geocentric
  • Topocentric
  • Heliocentric

Ref. Plane: the reference plane the coordinates are measured against. Choose from:

  • Ecliptic
  • Equatorial

Orientation: how the wheel is turned. Choose from:

  • Horizon
  • Zodiac

House System: how the wheel is divided into houses. Choose from:

  • None
  • Alcabitus
  • Campanus
  • Equal (Ascendant)
  • Koch
  • Morinus
  • Placidus
  • Porphyry
  • Regiomontanus
  • Topocentric (Polich/Page)
  • Vehlow Equal
  • Whole Sign

Paral. Aspects: which parallel aspects the wheel draws. Choose from:

  • None
  • All
  • Parallels
  • Contraparallels
