Natal Chart Configuration

The settings column of a Natal chart window starts with a Natal Record dropdown, followed by the Natal Date and Natal Time the chosen record fills in, and then the six calculation-frame rows every chart type carries.

Overview

There is no Location row on a Natal chart. The record's own coordinates place the chart and its houses, so the place travels with the record rather than being chosen separately.

Working down the column, you will find:

RowWhat it decides
Natal RecordWhich saved record the chart is drawn from. Type into the dropdown to search the list.
Natal Date, Natal TimeThe instant the wheel is drawn for. Both arrive filled in from the record.
Zodiac, Coord. Origin, Ref. Plane, Orientation, House System, Paral. AspectsThe frame the chart is calculated and drawn in. See Chart Calculation Frame.

Beneath the rows sit the bodies list and the aspect angles grid, documented as Chart Bodies Selection and Chart Aspect Angles.

Procedures

Select the Natal Record

To draw the chart from a different saved record:

  • Select a record from the Natal Record dropdown at the top of the settings column.

The wheel is redrawn for the chosen record, and the Natal Date and Natal Time rows beneath the dropdown are filled in from it.

tip

The dropdown is searchable. Type into it to narrow the list of saved records before you choose, which saves scrolling when you keep many records.

The Natal Moment

The Natal Date and Natal Time are populated directly from the record you selected, and they are shown here primarily for reference. They remain editable so that a "what-if" moment can be tried without altering the stored record, and under normal circumstances you leave them exactly as the record supplied them.

Both fields already hold the record's values, so change only the one you want to experiment with:

  • Natal Date and Natal Time together hold the instant the wheel is drawn for. Changing either one redraws the chart for the edited moment while the saved natal record itself stays untouched.

To put the chart back on the record's own moment, select the record again from the dropdown.

Reference

The Natal Record dropdown

The dropdown lists your saved natal records, each a name with a natal date, a natal time, a location name, a latitude, a longitude, and a height. The collection is shared across the R7 applications and is loaded when Compass starts.

The entries are yours to manage. Create, edit, and delete them in the Natal Records Editor, or bring a whole list in at once with Import Natal Records. Compass seeds an initial set when it is installed.
