Chart Bodies Selection

The bodies list is the checkbox list that chooses which celestial points a chart plots. Tick the points you work with and the wheel redraws with them; untick the ones you never use and the wheel stays readable.

Overview

One list serves every chart window, in four role-varied instances, each answering the same question for its own point set:

Transit	Transit. Bodies	The transiting points, drawn as filled dots.
Transit	Natal Bodies	The natal points, drawn as open rings.

Classification groups

The list groups its bodies under collapsible classification headers: Diurnal Angles, Planets, Barycenters, Lunar Axis, Asteroids, Centaurs, and Uranians. A header appears only when the list holds at least one body of that classification, so the headers you see depend on what the list is offering.

Clicking a header row, or its chevron, expands or collapses that group. Collapsing the classifications you do not work with is what keeps a long catalog manageable.

Group header rows are not body rows. They never enter the list's selection, and right-clicking one opens nothing. The context menu described below opens only from a body row.

The context menu

Right-clicking a body row opens a menu carrying both the selection commands and the preset commands. There is no preset button, dropdown, or toolbar affordance anywhere on the list: this menu is the only way in.

Select and Deselect act on whatever rows are highlighted. Clear All is different: it is not scoped to the highlight, and unticks every body in the list, including bodies hidden inside collapsed groups.

Procedures

Toggle a Body

To add a single celestial point to the chart, or take one off it:

• Click the checkbox beside the body's name.

The checkbox changes state and the wheel redraws with that point added or removed.

Toggle a Body Classification Group

To show or hide the body rows of one classification:

• Click a classification group header row.

The group's body rows appear beneath its header, or fold away, and the header's chevron rotates to match.

tip

With the header row focused, Space and Enter toggle the group, and Right Arrow and Left Arrow expand and collapse it.

Select Highlighted Bodies

To tick several bodies at once rather than clicking each checkbox in turn:

1. Highlight the body rows to act on.

   tip

   Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on macOS) to toggle individual rows in the highlight, and Shift-click to extend the highlight to a range.

2. Right-click one of the highlighted body rows and select Select.

Every highlighted body row is ticked and the wheel redraws with those points added.

Deselect Highlighted Bodies

To untick several bodies at once:

1. Highlight the body rows to act on.

   tip

   Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on macOS) to toggle individual rows in the highlight, and Shift-click to extend the highlight to a range.

2. Right-click one of the highlighted body rows and select Deselect.

Every highlighted body row is unticked and the wheel redraws with those points removed.

Clear All Bodies

To empty the whole body selection and start again from nothing:

• Right-click any body row in the bodies list and select Clear All.

Every body in the list is unticked, including bodies inside collapsed groups, and the wheel redraws with no body points. Nothing needs highlighting first.

Available bodies

Which bodies the list offers depends on the chart's Coord. Origin setting, on the Chart Calculation Frame. The geocentric and topocentric origins offer the same set; the heliocentric origin drops the points that have no meaning seen from the Sun, and adds the Earth.
