Welcome to Cygnus

Cygnus is a cross-platform desktop application for generating astronomical ephemerides, tabular positional data for celestial bodies, powered by the Swiss Ephemeris engine. You assemble one or more studies in a workspace, configure each study's location, reference system, bodies, metrics, and date range, then generate an ephemeris table of positions over your chosen time span.

Cygnus supports geocentric, topocentric, and heliocentric perspectives, both for individual body positions and for the angular aspects between pairs of bodies. Generated records can be searched, copied, and exported for use in other tools.

What You Can Do with Cygnus

Cygnus organizes its work around studies, configurable ephemeris generators that you collect in a workspace.

  • Generate standard ephemerides: produce geocentric, topocentric, or heliocentric positions for the celestial bodies you select. See Geocentric Ephemeris Study.
  • Track aspects between bodies: generate the angular relationships between inner and outer body pairs over time. See Geocentric Aspect Ephemeris Study.
  • Configure each study precisely: set the location, zodiac, reference plane, celestial bodies, output metrics, date range, and interval. See Ephemeris Settings.
  • Manage studies in a workspace: add, duplicate, reorder, and remove studies. See Create Study.
  • Save and reopen your work: store a workspace and all its studies in a .cygnus file. See Save Workspace.
  • Generate and review records: generate a study, then view, search, copy, and export the resulting ephemeris table. See Generate Study and Ephemeris Table.
  • Reuse common settings: save ephemeris and body-selection presets, and define application and workspace defaults. See Ephemeris Presets and Default Settings Editor.
  • Maintain your locations: keep a shared library of observation locations that every study draws on. See Locations Editor.
