Transit Chart Configuration
The settings column of a Transit chart window is organized as two stacked tab pairs, so both halves of a transit comparison, the moving sky and the natal chart it is read against, are set up in one place.
Overview
The upper pair holds the two sides of the comparison:
- Ephemeris carries a Location row for the transiting side, above the six calculation-frame rows every chart type carries. See Chart Calculation Frame. This is the tab the column opens on.
- Natal Data carries the searchable Natal Record dropdown plus the Natal Date and Natal Time it fills in.
The lower pair holds the two point sets:
- Transiting Bodies & Aspects holds the transiting bodies list beside the transiting aspect angles grid. This is the tab the lower half opens on.
- Natal Bodies holds the natal bodies list.
The transiting date and time are not in this column. They live in the time navigation band above the wheel.
Procedures
Set the Transiting Location
To anchor the transiting side of the chart over a different place:
- Select a place from the Location dropdown at the top of the Ephemeris tab.
The transiting bodies and the house frame recalculate for the chosen place. The natal bodies are unaffected.
Ephemeris is the first tab of the upper pair, so it is already showing when the chart opens and no tab click is needed to reach the Location row.
Select the Natal Record
To choose which saved record the transiting sky is read against:
- Click the Natal Data tab in the upper tab pair.
- Select a record from the Natal Record dropdown.
The natal bodies are redrawn for the chosen record and the aspects between the two point sets are re-matched. The Natal Date and Natal Time rows beneath the dropdown are filled in from the record.
The dropdown is searchable. Type into it to narrow the list of saved records before you choose.
Show the Natal Bodies Tab
To work on the natal point set:
- Click the Natal Bodies tab in the lower tab pair.
The lower half of the settings column swaps from the transiting bodies and aspects to the Natal Bodies list.
The Natal Moment
The Natal Date and Natal Time on the Natal Data tab are populated directly from the record you selected, and are shown primarily for reference. They remain editable so that a "what-if" moment can be tried without altering the stored record, and under normal circumstances you leave them exactly as the record supplied them.
To reach them, click the Natal Data tab in the upper tab pair. Both fields already hold the record's values, so change only the one you want to experiment with:
- Natal Date and Natal Time together hold the instant the natal bodies are drawn for. Changing either one re-matches the aspects between the two point sets for the edited moment while the saved natal record itself stays as it is.
The transiting side's date and time are not here. They live in the window's time navigation band.

The Location and Natal Record dropdowns
The Location dropdown lists your saved locations, each a name with a latitude, a longitude, and a height. The Natal Record dropdown lists your saved natal records, each a name with a natal date, a natal time, a location name, a latitude, a longitude, and a height. Both collections are shared across the R7 applications and loaded when Compass starts.
Manage the entries in the Locations Editor and the Natal Records Editor.
