Chart Aspect Angles

The aspects grid sits beside the bodies list and holds the angles, in degrees, that the chart matches aspects at. Strip it back to the majors for a quick reading, or add a harmonic angle you are studying.

Overview

The grid is headed Aspects on Mundane and Natal charts, and Transiting Aspects on a Transit chart, where the angles are matched between the transiting points and the natal points.

This grid decides only which angles are matched. The orb each angle is matched within, and the color its chords are drawn in, come from the Aspect Settings window for the chart's own type.

Three gestures cover everything the grid does:

• Add an angle by typing it into the entry box beneath the grid and committing it.
• Edit a value in place, with a single click on the row and then a single click on the cell.
• Remove angles through the grid's right-click context menu.

The grid holds a single column and accepts digits and a decimal point only, so a stray keystroke cannot corrupt a value.

Procedures

Open the Numeric Grid Context Menu

The grid's context menu carries its delete commands and, on the chart windows' aspects grid, the preset commands. To open it:

• Right-click inside the grid body.

The menu opens over the pointer, listing Delete Selected and Delete All and, on a chart window's aspects grid, the Presets submenu, New Preset, and Clear Default.

Right-clicking the grid's column header opens nothing. The menu opens only from the grid body.

Add an Aspect Angle

To add an angle that this chart window matches aspects at:

1. Enter the angle in degrees into the entry box beneath the grid.
2. Press Enter to add the angle.

The angle appears as a new row at the bottom of the grid, the entry box clears, and the wheel redraws with chords at that angle.

tip

The add button beside the entry box commits the value too. It stays unavailable until the entry box holds text.

Edit an Aspect Angle

To change an angle already in the grid:

1. Click the angle's row to select it.
2. Click the angle's cell to put the row into edit mode.
3. Enter the new angle over the existing value.
4. Press Enter to commit the edit.

The row shows the new angle and the wheel redraws with chords at it.

This is a single-click gesture, not a double-click. The first click brings focus into the grid and the second opens the editor. Tab commits the value as well, but because the grid has a single column it carries focus out of the row.

Delete Selected Aspect Angles

To remove particular angles from the grid:

1. Select the angle rows to remove.

   tip

   Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on macOS) to toggle individual rows in the selection, and Shift-click to extend the selection to a range.

2. Open the Numeric Grid Context Menu.

3. Click Delete Selected in the context menu.

The selected rows leave the grid and the wheel redraws without chords at those angles.

tip

The Delete key does the same thing while the grid holds focus.

Delete All Aspect Angles

To empty the grid in one gesture:

1. Open the Numeric Grid Context Menu.
2. Click Delete All in the context menu.

The grid is empty and the wheel redraws with no aspect chords. Delete All is not scoped to the selection, so no rows need selecting first, and no confirmation is raised.

Sort the Aspect Angles

To put the angles into order so the grid reads in sequence:

• Click the grid's column header.

The rows are reordered smallest angle first. The sort is ascending only, so clicking again does not reverse it.

The same grid control is used inside the Aspect Settings window, where the preset entries are deliberately hidden. There its context menu carries only Delete Selected and Delete All. See Aspect Definition Editor.
