Open a Chart from Aquila

Compass charts can be opened directly from the sibling application Aquila. Double-clicking an event row in a study's events table there opens the corresponding Mundane or Transit chart here, already set to that event's moment and frame.

Overview​

The gesture belongs to Aquila; Compass is the side that receives it. There is no control for this inside Compass, and none is needed, which is why you will not find a matching button or menu item in the Compass shell.

When you are working through a list of events in Aquila, the hand-off saves re-entering each event's moment and place in a second application. The chart appears on its own.

What happens behind the scenes​

  • When Compass is already running, Aquila sends the request straight to it and the chart window opens and comes to the front.
  • When Compass is installed but closed, Aquila starts it and passes the request along, so the chart opens once the application is up.
  • When a request arrives while Compass is still starting, it is held and opened once loading finishes. A chart is never drawn against settings that have not loaded yet.
  • When a second copy of Compass is launched with a request, it forwards the request to the copy already running and exits, rather than starting a rival instance.
caution

If the request comes from a newer version of the hand-off format than this copy of Compass understands, it is refused with a message asking you to update Compass. Use the update notification on the toolbar, or check your version in the About Dialog.

Procedures​

Open a Compass Chart from an Aquila Event Row​

With a study open in Aquila:

  • Double-click an event row in the study's events table.

The corresponding Mundane or Transit chart opens in Compass, set to that event's moment and frame, and is brought to the front. Compass is started first if it was not already running.
