Open a Chart from Aquila
When you find an event in Aquila, you can see its chart in Compass without re-entering the event's details. Double-click the event's row in an Aquila study's events table, and Compass opens, or comes forward if it is already running, with the matching Mundane or Transit chart in a new chart window brought to the front.
The gesture belongs to Aquila: Compass has no control of its own for it. Compass receives the chart Aquila sends and opens it.
What the Chart Takes from Aquila
The kind of chart depends on the study the event comes from, and the chart is cast at the event's moment from the study's own settings.

A few details complete the picture:
- A parallels study also sends its choice of parallel aspects.
- Where Aquila sends an empty body or aspect list, the chart uses the chart type's default preset for that list.
- Double-clicking a row of the Aquila Timeline opens the chart type that the row's source study requests.
Open a Mundane Chart from an Aquila Event
Before you start, Compass must be installed and an Aquila mundane study's events table must show the event.
To open the Mundane chart of an event from a mundane study:
- In Aquila, double-click the event's row in the study's events table.
Compass brings to the front a new Mundane chart window cast at the event's moment, with the study's location, frame, bodies and aspect angles.
Open a Transit Chart from an Aquila Event
Before you start, Compass must be installed and an Aquila transit or activation study's events table must show the event.
To open the Transit chart of an event from a transit or activation study:
- In Aquila, double-click the event's row in the study's events table.
Compass brings to the front a new Transit chart window cast at the event's moment, with the study's location and natal record, its frame, its transiting and natal bodies and its aspect angles.
How Compass Receives the Chart
You do not need to start Compass first:
- If Compass is installed but not running, Aquila starts it.
- If a chart arrives while Compass is still loading at startup, Compass holds it and opens it once loading completes.
One copy of Compass serves every request: if Compass is started again while it is already running, the new copy hands its chart to the running one and closes. If the request comes in a newer form than your version of Compass can read, Compass asks you to update Compass.
