Open a New Chart
Compass draws three kinds of wheel chart: Mundane, Natal, and Transit. You open any of them the same way, by choosing the chart type from the main window. A new chart window opens right away, seeded with default settings: the default location, the current moment, the tropical geocentric ecliptic frame, and the preset defaults for bodies and aspects. You then adjust everything inside the open window.
You can keep several chart windows open at once, so you can compare charts side by side.
Open a chart
To open a new chart, choose its type from the Charts menu on the main window, or click the matching button on the main toolbar:
- To open a Mundane chart, click Charts → Mundane Chart.
- To open a Natal chart, click Charts → Natal Chart.
- To open a Transit chart, click Charts → Transit Chart.
A chart opens with default settings so you can start straight away. To change a chart's location, moment, bodies, or aspects, use the settings panel inside the Chart Window.
What each chart type is
- Mundane Chart: the sky at a chosen location and moment, with no birth reference.
- Natal Chart: the sky at a person's birth, drawn from a saved natal record.
- Transit Chart: transiting positions charted against a natal reference set.
A chart can also open automatically when you hand off an event from Aquila. See Open a Chart from Aquila.
