Lunar Eclipses Study

The Lunar Eclipses Study generates an event for each lunar eclipse that occurs in the chosen date range. Each event is classified by type (Total, Partial, or Penumbral) and includes the Saros series and member number.

Create a Lunar Eclipses Study

To add a new Lunar Eclipses Study to the active workspace:

  1. Click Mundane Studies on the menu bar.
  2. Click Eclipses, then click Lunar Eclipses in the submenu.

You can also create a Lunar Eclipses Study from the toolbar by clicking the Lunar Eclipse Studies drop-down button and selecting Lunar Eclipses.

Events Captured

A Lunar Eclipses event marks each lunar eclipse, the moment of maximum eclipse when the Full Moon passes through Earth's umbral or penumbral shadow. The study supports the three lunar eclipse types Aquila can detect; you can filter the captured types using the Selectable Lunar Eclipse Types List.

Events Table Columns

The events table for a Lunar Eclipses Study contains the following columns:

Eclipse TypeLunar eclipse type (Total, Partial, Penumbral).
Saros SeriesSaros series number identifying the cycle this eclipse belongs to.
Member NumberPosition (member number) of this eclipse within its Saros series.
Eclipse LongitudeEcliptic longitude (or right ascension) of the eclipse point (Sun-Moon opposition).
Eclipse SignZodiac sign of the eclipse point.
Eclipse LatitudeEcliptic latitude (or declination) of the eclipse point.
Event IntervalTime interval between this event and the previous event.
