Ephemeris Presets

Switch a study between the locations and Reference Systems you use often, without choosing four settings each time. An ephemeris preset is a named set of a study's Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane. Click the presets flyout button, a small chevron beside the Location drop-down, point to Presets and click a preset's name to apply it, or right-click a preset's name for its options. Choose New Preset to save the current settings, or Clear Default to stop applying a default.

Presets are shared by all studies and kept between sessions. The default preset, marked with a chevron in the Presets submenu, is applied to every new study after the workspace defaults.

The presets flyout button is unavailable while the study holds generated results. To use presets after the study is generated, unlock the study first, as described in Unlock Study.

Before you follow the procedures on this page, select the study in the Studies list.

Apply an Ephemeris Preset

Set the study's Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane in one step from a saved preset. You need at least one saved preset.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Point to Presets in the flyout menu and click the preset's name.

The preset's four settings replace the study's Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane.

Save the Current Settings as a New Preset

Save the study's current Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane under a new preset name.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Click New Preset in the flyout menu.
3. Enter the preset's name in the name box of the Enter Name dialog.
4. Click Save.

The new preset appears in the Presets submenu of every study. Nothing is saved if you leave the name empty or cancel the dialog.

The Enter Name dialog opens when you choose New Preset or Rename for an ephemeris preset, and for a bodies list preset, as described in Bodies List Presets. It holds a single name box, filled with the current name when you rename a preset, and Save is available only while the box holds text.

To save the name:

1. Enter the preset's name in the name box.
2. Click Save.

The dialog closes, and the name, without any leading or trailing spaces, is used for the new or renamed preset. Pressing Enter also saves the name.

To close the dialog without creating or renaming a preset:

• Click Cancel.

Pressing Esc, or closing the dialog with its title-bar close button, also cancels it.

Set the Default Preset

Make a preset the one applied automatically to every new study. You need at least one saved preset.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Click Presets in the flyout menu.
3. Right-click the preset's name and choose Set Default.

The preset is marked with a chevron in the Presets submenu, and every new study gets its four settings after the workspace defaults.

Clear the Default Preset

Stop applying a default ephemeris preset to new studies.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Click Clear Default in the flyout menu.

No preset is marked as the default, and new studies take their Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane from the workspace defaults alone.

Rename a Preset

Give a saved preset a new name. Its settings stay the same.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Click Presets in the flyout menu.
3. Right-click the preset's name and choose Rename.
4. Replace the current name in the name box of the Enter Name dialog with the new name.
5. Click Save.

The preset appears under its new name in the Presets submenu.

Replace a Preset

Overwrite a saved preset with the study's current Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Click Presets in the flyout menu.
3. Right-click the preset's name and choose Replace.

The preset keeps its name and its default mark, and now holds the study's current four settings.

Delete a Preset

Remove a saved preset.

Cygnus deletes the preset without asking for confirmation.

1. Click the presets flyout button beside the Location drop-down.
2. Click Presets in the flyout menu.
3. Right-click the preset's name and choose Delete.

The preset disappears from the Presets submenu of every study.

Flyout Menu

The menu that opens from the presets flyout button holds three items, with no separator:

Presets Submenu

The Presets submenu lists your saved ephemeris presets alphabetically by name, each one a named Location, Zodiac, Coord. Origin and Ref. Plane. The default preset shows a chevron. Click a preset to apply its four settings to the study, or right-click it to open the preset context menu. You add presets with New Preset, and every study offers the same presets.

Right-clicking a preset in the Presets submenu opens a menu whose items act on that preset, with no separator:
