Ephemeris Presets
An ephemeris preset is a named, reusable bundle of the basic ephemeris settings: a location, a zodiac system, a coordinate origin, and a reference plane. If you always work from the same place under the same conventions, a preset saves you from re-selecting them on every new study.
Presets are shared by the whole application, so a preset you save on one study is available on every study editor, in every workspace.
Open the Presets Menu
Every study editor carries a small chevron button at the right of the Location row. That button opens the ephemeris presets flyout menu, which holds three items.
| Menu item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Presets | Opens a submenu of every preset you have saved. Click a name to apply it, or right-click a name for that preset's own options. |
| New Preset | Saves the study's current basic ephemeris settings under a name you supply. |
| Clear Default | Unsets whichever preset is currently marked as the default for new studies. |
A chevron beside a name in the Presets submenu marks the preset that new studies start from.
The presets button is disabled once a completed generation locks the study, so unlock the study before applying or capturing a preset.

Apply an Ephemeris Preset
To set a study's location and reference system from a saved preset:
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click Presets.
- Click the preset's name in the Presets submenu.

The Location, Zodiac, and Ref. Plane controls in the Basic Ephemeris Settings take the preset's values, and Cygnus marks the workspace as changed.
Save a New Ephemeris Preset
To capture the settings you have on screen as a reusable preset:
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click New Preset.
- Enter the preset's name in the Enter Name dialog and click Save.

The new preset joins the Presets submenu under the name you typed and is available to every study.
The Enter Name Dialog
The Enter Name dialog is the small window Cygnus shows whenever a preset needs a name, both when you create one and when you rename one. It holds a single text box with Save and Cancel buttons.
To name the preset:
- Enter the name in the text box.
- Click Save.
Pressing Enter does the same thing as clicking Save. The Save button stays disabled until you have typed at least one character.
To back out instead:
- Click Cancel.
Pressing Escape does the same thing. The dialog closes with no name returned, and the preset is neither created nor renamed.
Set the Default Ephemeris Preset
Marking a preset as the default makes every study you create from then on start from its settings.
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click Presets.
- Right-click the preset's name and select Set Default.

A chevron appears beside the preset in the Presets submenu, and newly created studies take its location and reference system.
Clear the Default Ephemeris Preset
To stop new studies from starting from any saved preset:
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click Clear Default.

The chevron disappears from the Presets submenu, and newly created studies fall back to the workspace defaults. See Default Settings.
Rename an Ephemeris Preset
Renaming changes only the label. The settings the preset captured are untouched.
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click Presets.
- Right-click the preset's name and select Rename.
- Enter the new name over the existing one in the Enter Name dialog and click Save.

The preset appears in the Presets submenu under its new name.
Replace an Ephemeris Preset
Replacing overwrites a saved preset with the settings the study has on screen right now, keeping the preset's name and its default marking.
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click Presets.
- Right-click the preset's name and select Replace.
- Confirm the replacement. See Confirm a Yes/No Confirmation Prompt.

The preset now holds the study's current location, zodiac system, coordinate origin, and reference plane.
Delete an Ephemeris Preset
To remove a preset you no longer need:
- Click the ephemeris presets button beside the Location dropdown.
- Click Presets.
- Right-click the preset's name and select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion. See Confirm a Yes/No Confirmation Prompt.

The preset disappears from the Presets submenu on every study editor.
