Aspect Metrics List

The aspect metrics list chooses which angular-relationship measurements are reported for each Inner and Outer body pair on an aspect ephemeris study. Checking a metric adds its column to the ephemeris table for every valid pair; unchecking a metric removes it.

The list is headed Aspect Metrics and appears only on the three aspect ephemeris studies, on the Body & Aspect Metrics tab, beside the Body Metrics List.

Which Measurements Are Offered

MetricWhat it reports
Cycle AngleThe angular distance from the outer body to the inner body in the direction of zodiacal motion, from 0 to 360 degrees.
PhaseWhere the pair sits in its cycle: New, Waxing, Full, or Waning.
SeparationThe shortest angular distance between the two bodies regardless of direction, from 0 to 180 degrees.

Phase and Separation are checked by default on a new aspect study, and Cycle Angle is not.

note

These three toggles are the only aspect-related list in Cygnus. There is no editable list of aspect angles or aspect values anywhere in the application; selecting a metric adds a column to the ephemeris table, and deselecting it removes the column.

Show or Hide an Aspect Metric

To add one angular measurement to the study's output, or take it out again:

  1. Click the Body & Aspect Metrics tab.
  2. Click the checkbox beside the metric's name in the Aspect Metrics list.

The metric's column appears for every Inner and Outer body pair, or disappears again. The column headers read {Inner}/{Outer} Cycle Angle, {Inner}/{Outer} Phase, and {Inner}/{Outer} Separation, naming the two bodies in the pair.

Select Several Aspect Metrics at Once

To check several aspect metrics in one action:

  1. Click the Body & Aspect Metrics tab.

  2. Select one or more metric rows in the Aspect Metrics list.

    tip

Shift-click the last row of a range to extend the selection to every row between it and the row you clicked first.

  3. Right-click one of the highlighted rows and select Select in the context menu.

All three rows of the Aspect Metrics list highlighted and unchecked, with Select highlighted in the context menu.

Every highlighted aspect metric is checked and its column added to the ephemeris table.

Deselect Several Aspect Metrics at Once

To uncheck several aspect metrics in one action:

  1. Click the Body & Aspect Metrics tab.

  2. Select one or more metric rows in the Aspect Metrics list.

    tip

Shift-click the last row of a range to extend the selection to every row between it and the row you clicked first.

  3. Right-click one of the highlighted rows and select Deselect in the context menu.

All three Aspect Metrics rows checked and highlighted, with Deselect highlighted in the open context menu.

Every highlighted aspect metric is unchecked and its column removed from the ephemeris table.

Clear All Aspect Metrics

To uncheck every aspect metric at once, ready to pick a fresh set:

  1. Click the Body & Aspect Metrics tab.
  2. Right-click any metric row in the Aspect Metrics list to open the context menu.
  3. Click Clear All.

The Aspect Metrics list context menu open on the Cycle Angle row with Clear All highlighted.

Cycle Angle, Phase, and Separation are all unchecked and every aspect column is removed from the ephemeris table.

SelectCheck every highlighted aspect metric row.
DeselectUncheck every highlighted aspect metric row.
Clear AllUncheck every aspect metric in the list, whether or not it is highlighted.

The commands look the same as those on the Body Metrics list beside it, but they are independent: each menu acts only on its own list.
