Chart Settings Window
The Chart Settings window is the one place that decides how charts look and what a newly opened chart starts out as. Setting it once here saves repeating the same adjustment on every window you open.
It is a two-tab window with Reset at the bottom left and two buttons at the bottom right, Save and Close. Only one copy is ever open: opening it again from the shell or from any chart window's toolbar brings the existing one forward.
Your edits preview live into open chart windows as you make them, so you can judge a change against a real wheel before you commit it.
In This Window
- Chart Defaults: the Defaults tab, whose eleven rows decide what a newly opened chart starts with. This is the tab the window opens on.
- Chart Colors: the Colors tab, where five sub-tabs of color pickers set the palette the wheel is drawn in.
Opening, Saving, and Closing
Three routes reach the window, and all three open the same single copy: the Edit menu, the settings button on the main toolbar, and the settings button on any chart window's toolbar.
To open it from the menu bar:
- Open the Edit Menu.
- Click Chart Settings.
The window opens on its Defaults tab, or is brought forward if it is already open.
The settings button on the main toolbar, and the settings button on any chart window's toolbar, open the same window in one click.
To keep your edits so future sessions start with them:
- Click the Save button.
Save becomes available as soon as you change something, and goes back to being unavailable once your edits are written.
To start over from the settings Compass ships with:
- Click the Reset button.
Reset asks you to confirm first. Confirm, and Compass replaces every color and every display default with its built-in value, and the change previews straight into your open chart windows.
To put the window away:
- Click the Close button.
If you have unsaved edits, Compass asks what to do with them before it closes the window.
