Main Toolbar
The toolbar sits beneath the menu bar and gives you one-click access to the commands you use most, without opening a menu. The chart and settings buttons are on the left; the update button and theme switch are on the right.
Each button below opens a feature documented on its own page. Use the tables to find a button and follow the link in the Details column to learn how to use it.
Chart buttons
These buttons open a new chart of the selected type in the shared chart window.

Settings buttons
These buttons open the settings windows.

| Aspect Settings | A dropdown button. Choose a chart type to edit its aspect settings. | Aspect Settings |
Aspect Settings is a dropdown button. Click it to open a menu with one item per chart type, then choose the type whose aspect settings you want to edit:
- Mundane
- Natal
- Transit
Each item opens the Aspect Settings window for that chart type.
Update button and theme switch
The right side of the toolbar carries the update button and the theme switch.

| Update available | A button that appears only when a newer version of Compass is available to download. Click it to review and install the update. | Update Notification |
| Theme switch | Switch between the light and dark appearance. | Toggle Theme |
The update button is shown only when a newer version can be downloaded. When it appears, it sits immediately to the left of the theme switch; when no update is available, it is hidden and the theme switch is the rightmost control.
