Default Settings Editor
The Default Settings Editor lets you decide the values that new workspaces and new studies start from, so you do not have to reconfigure the same settings every time. The window has two columns, Application Defaults and Workspace Defaults, each configuring the same set of settings.

Opening the Default Settings Editor
To open the Default Settings Editor:
- Click Edit → Default Settings on the menu bar.
Application Defaults and Workspace Defaults
The two columns apply at different points:
- Application Defaults seed the defaults of each new workspace when it is created.
- Workspace Defaults are applied to each new study as it is created.
In other words, the Application Defaults set up a fresh workspace, and that workspace's defaults then flow into every study you add.
Settings You Can Configure
Each column configures the same ten settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Location | One of your saved locations, managed in the Locations Editor. |
| Zodiac System | Tropical or Sidereal. |
| Coord. Origin | Geocentric, Topocentric, or Heliocentric. |
| Ref. Plane | Ecliptic or Equatorial. |
| House System | One of eleven house systems (listed below). |
| Start Date | The default start of the study date range. |
| End Date | The default end of the study date range. |
| Aspect Orb | The default aspect orb. |
| Natal Record | One of your saved natal records, managed in the Natal Records Editor. |
| Transit Orb | The default transit orb. |
The Zodiac System, Coord. Origin, and Ref. Plane settings together make up the Reference System. For a fuller explanation of what each ephemeris setting controls, see Ephemeris Settings.
The available house systems are:
- Equal (Ascendant)
- Alcabitus
- Campanus
- Koch
- Morinus

- Set the Start Date and End Date for the default date range.
- Set the default orbs and natal record (Aspect Orb, Natal Record, Transit Orb).
