Default Settings Editor

The Default Settings Editor lets you decide the values that new workspaces and new studies start from, so you do not have to reconfigure the same settings every time. The window has two columns, Application Defaults and Workspace Defaults, each configuring the same set of settings.

Opening the Default Settings Editor

To open the Default Settings Editor:

  • Click Edit → Default Settings on the menu bar.

Application Defaults and Workspace Defaults

The two columns apply at different points:

  • Application Defaults seed the defaults of each new workspace when it is created.
  • Workspace Defaults are applied to each new study as it is created.

In other words, the Application Defaults set up a fresh workspace, and that workspace's defaults then flow into every study you add.

Settings You Can Configure

Each column configures the same ten settings:

Zodiac SystemTropical or Sidereal.
Coord. OriginGeocentric, Topocentric, or Heliocentric.
Ref. PlaneEcliptic or Equatorial.
House SystemOne of eleven house systems (listed below).
Start DateThe default start of the study date range.
End DateThe default end of the study date range.
Aspect OrbThe default aspect orb.
Natal RecordOne of your saved natal records, managed in the Natal Records Editor.
Transit OrbThe default transit orb.

The Zodiac System, Coord. Origin, and Ref. Plane settings together make up the Reference System. For a fuller explanation of what each ephemeris setting controls, see Ephemeris Settings.

The available house systems are:

  • Equal (Ascendant)
  • Alcabitus
  • Campanus
  • Koch
  • Morinus
  • Porphyry
  • Placidus
  • Regiomontanus
  • Topocentric (Polich/Page)
  • Vehlow Equal
  • Whole Sign

Configuring Application Defaults

Application Defaults seed the defaults of each new workspace. Set them in the left column:

  1. Set the default coordinate framework (Location, Zodiac System, Coord. Origin, Ref. Plane, House System).
  2. Set the Start Date and End Date for the default date range.
  3. Set the default orbs and natal record (Aspect Orb, Natal Record, Transit Orb).

Configuring Workspace Defaults

Workspace Defaults are applied to each new study as it is created. Set them in the right column:

  1. Set the default coordinate framework (Location, Zodiac System, Coord. Origin, Ref. Plane, House System).
  2. Set the Start Date and End Date for the default date range.
  3. Set the default orbs and natal record (Aspect Orb, Natal Record, Transit Orb).

Saving the Settings

To save the configured defaults:

  • Click the Save button.

Closing the Editor

To close the Default Settings Editor:

  • Click the Close button.
